Mitt Romney? Nice Guy, but not a Conservative.
Mitt Romney? Nice Guy, made a great heartfelt campaign speech this week, but not a real Conservative. I think I could stomach seeing him in the White house as V.P., but not President as long as he hangs on to his belief that our second amendment rights are negotiable. A lot of people, even in the protestant Christian community that I’m a part of seem to be making a big deal about the fact the Mitt is a Mormon. While I don’t agree with many of the tenants of the Mormon faith, they have hardly been a threat to our religious freedom or way of life in America. I can’t say the same for what the Muslim faith has become however. Sure, not all Muslims openly advocate blowing up innocent men, women & children with homicide bombings, but they also don’t come pouring into the streets of America or elsewhere for that matter to protest it when it happens.. My point is that we have much bigger threats to deal with than any theological differences or disagreement some may have with Mormonism. Like Radical Islam for instance.. Mitt may not be everyone’s ideal candidate with regards to his religious beliefs, but whoever is for us is not against us, & I do believe that Mr. Romney is in fact for the sovereignty & good of the United States of America.
Mitt Romney’s problem lies in his adherence to some pretty liberal principles, like taking assault rifles out of the hands of honest gun owners for instance. With the recent assault rifle shooting rampage by a 20 year old man in Omaha Nebraska, I’m sure many immediately assume this bolsters Romney’s stand on gun control. The fact of the matter is however, if this guy wasn’t able to get his hands on an AK-47 assault rifle, he probably would have put a pipe bomb in the Ball Pit at a Chucky Cheese or something. He was a nut. The fact that the Mall had a “Gun Free Zone” policy didn’t seem to stop him either. Just like the VT massacre, it only served to ensure that a sane gun owner didn’t have the opportunity to gun him down before he could hurt more people. THIS is the real issue that Romney will need to overcome, & I think quite legitimately so. It is policy stances like this one that make it hard for real Conservatives to put enough space in their minds between Romney & some of the Democratic candidates. Constitutional rights are no small issue, & the 2nd amendment is important to the stability of our society & government. That is a fact.
